Endangered Vultures call Cango Wildlife Ranch Home
Vultures, though often depicted as mean or dangerous, are actually exactly the opposite. Romantics at heart, they pair for life, and unknown to most public, they are natures hygiene life-line. They play an extraordinary role in keeping deadly diseases like botulism, cholera and anthrax at bay, not only for animals in the wild, but this limits the spread of disease for communities the world over. Southern Africa is home to nine irreplaceable vulture species, of which two are endangered, 6 are critically endangered and one is already extinct.
48 hours for Vulture Awareness | Creating a Vulture Culture
"The 2 day campaign of living with his vulture brothers, is aimed to raise awareness on living in symbiosis with these sorely misunderstood scavengers. Delano will be proving that the negative stigma is far from the truth and that sharing our planet is much easier than most would like to believe. Without vultures… pests would raid, disease would spread, our waters would become contaminated and the whole ecosystem would be compromised."
Speckles turns 10!
A perfect gift for the sweetest animal at our facility. Speckles, our Spotted-Necked Otter, turns 10 on the 30th of September and we're doing all we can to make it memorable!
"Speckles has been due for a home upgrade for some time, and we are ecstatic to say that we now have the space to give it to her! Sadly, we still have a way to go in gathering funds to complete the whole move. This would be the perfect 10th birthday gift for her bright spirit."
Carmen Ellis, Cheetah Preservation Foundation manager.
Oudtshoorn PSP: A helping hand
A little goes a LONG way.
"We wouldn't have been nearly as far as we were in the world without the help we receive from animal-loving and kind-hearted entities like them."
International Tiger Day | 29 July 2018
International Tiger Day | 29 July 2018
Tigers have always been known as the most powerful beings in the forest, yet the Javan, Bali & Caspian Tigers have not survived mankind - and things are not looking up at all for the rest of Tiger species.
Although they are protected by wildlife laws their numbers keep decreasing.
We would like to make sure that extinction remains just a word in the dictionary - but we need your help!
Race Against Extinction | 36One Endurance race
Just recently, The Cheetah Preservation Foundation (CPF), a division of the Cango Wildlife Ranch, was represented in a local Dryland Events Management cycling event where we proudly raced against extinction. The cheetah is the world's fastest land animal and they are dangerously close to extinction. Approximately 6,900 of the big cats remain in the wild. The cheetah’s future is uncertain due to a variety of threats, of which the biggest is habitat loss.

We will be joining forces with Dryland Events Management again this year, and our Operations Director, Hugo du Plessis will be taking part in the 36ONE event from 20 – 22 April 2018.
