About Us
Our History
In 1977 the Cango Crocodile Farm was established as South Africa’s first crocodile show farm. The farm was, as the name suggests, a place where crocodiles were bred to be sold. In 1986 a dream was realized when Andrew and Glenn Eriksen purchased the Cango Crocodile Farm.
“The work done at the ranch by our dedicated staff takes on a whole new meaning when you realize that the people involved in saving animals and educating the general public, will never see the result of their work in their lifetime. Nevertheless, we will keep on doing our best to ensure that extinction becomes just another word in the dictionary and not a reality. We have seen man do terrible things but we also know that man is capable of great things and it is towards greatness that we at the Cango Wildlife Ranch strive.”
~ Andrew Eriksen
Our Purpose
It is important that we explain our purpose as a facility with regards to our conservation ethics and preservation mission. For that reason as well, we are always open to queries and/or concerns as it provides us with a platform to further expand on what we do.
About our animals
The animals resident at the Cango Wildlife Ranch come from all over the world and are here for a huge variety of reasons. Some of our animals have been rescued from the wild or landed on our doorstep by default. It is heartwarming to see how many concerned animal people you find in everyday living. We get a huge amount of concerned citizens bringing us injured animals picked up next to the road. These little patients are usually nursed back to health and released back into the wild depending on the nature of their injuries.
